For those of you who weren’t glued to your computer screens repeatedly pressing F5 during the live blogging of Apple’s Press Conference, here is a rundown of today’s announcements.
- Users can now cut iTunes songs and create ringtones for $.99. I don’t know anyone who would pay the same price as one song for just 30 seconds of it, but I guess if you really want to you now can.
- More iPod Shuffle colors.
- New iPod Nanos. Funny squarish design to facilitate a 2-inch color screen. View photos, videos, and, of course, it plays music. New User Interface. 24 hours of audio or 5 hours of video. 4GB for $150 or 8GB for $200.
- Updated iPod “Classic.” A thinner, full-metal case that comes in 80GB ($250) or 160GB ($350)! 30 and 40 hours of audio playback, respectively (longer battery life is probably the result of a larger buffer in the 160GB iPod, just like it was with the first 5G iPods).
- New iPod Touch. Just like an iPhone except without the phone feature. It has WiFi, Safari, YouTube, access to the new WiFi iTunes Store, etc. 8GB for $300, 16GB for $400. 22 hours of audio playback.
- iPhone and iPod Touch owners at participating Starbucks can now view what song is playing in that Starbucks and purchase it from the WiFi iTunes store.
- iPhone price drop! Steve certainly saved the best for last here. From $600 to $400 for the 8GB. This seems to make the iPod Touch look a lot less attractive. They must think the iPhone won’t cannibalize the iPod Touch sales. Only time will tell….
Check it all out for yourself once the Apple Store is back up.
