Water Polo

The other Saturday I finally made it out to a Berkeley High School water polo game. One of my second families here in the Bay Area (yes, I have two “second families” out here, how cool is that?) have a daughter who is the captain and lead scorer of Berkeley High’s water polo team. She’s going to make a great addition to any college’s water polo team.

I’d never shot water polo before, and quickly found out that it’s a much faster-paced sport than you’d think. The ball would go from being in the water to being hurled towards the goal in a split second. The last picture of this series shows an awesome back-hand attempt on goal from Caroline.

Hillsdale Charger Baseball

The Hillsdale Chargers played a couple games in the San Francisco Bay Area this week and I was able to go to the one against San Francisco State which was played at the College of San Mateo. The weather wasn’t ideal, but at least it was only raining for one inning and the Chargers triumphed 8-3. More game photos next week after I get back from hitting the powder in Tahoe this weekend!

Charger Baseball Fall Classic

After hearing one of my cousins disparage baseball this past weekend in what could have been recorded as a stand-up comedy routine, I remembered I hadn’t posted any of these photos from the Fall Classic series the Charger Baseball team played the other week. A number of these images showcase No. 6, the studly John Bonvillian. Off the field John can be found maintaining law and order on my old hall, Simpson 3FS.

Speaking of sports photography, a sports photographer whose blog I follow had an unfortunate incident at the last race he shot which resulted in the destruction of $11,000 worth of camera gear. It’s sad, but I find the photos of the busted gear interesting. Check it out.

Swim Team Practice

Swimming is hard to shoot, especially when the lighting is crummy and there’s no way to shoot straight down a lane without getting your gear all wet everytime someone executes a flip turn. I found a spot in the pool where an overhead light was shining, creating a spot a little brighter than the rest and focused there waiting for everything to line up to make the first shot below. These two photos ran in the Collegian the other week.
